The other links on this page are to free online learning sites.
Some require no sign in, others require students to sign up for a free account with their email address, and some allow teachers to create classes and send their class a join code. Creating a class usually allows teachers to monitor their students' progress and shows strengths and needs for each student.
Note: when using sites that are not New Zealand based: Year 9/10 NZ = Level 5 NZ Curriculum = 8th/9th Grade USA = KS3/4 UK

You can learn any subject for free, from Y1-Y13 on Khan Academy.
Teachers can set tasks for their class and invite students to join their class using a code.
Khan Academy currently has suggested programmes for each day linked here.
Learn a language - lots to choose from. Duolingo is an interactive site, with game elements to motivate. There is also a Duolingo app, that will send students reminders to practice.
Learn Te Reo Māori through watching episodes of a story, with interactive activities to follow each episode.
Learn coding, for all levels. Set up a free account if you want to save your task and come back to it later. Teachers can create classes and set tasks and programmes suitable for their students.
NZ Maths has weekly online plans for curriculum levels 1-5. Teachers need to sign their class up for E-ako maths, which is quick and easy to do. The site also contains numerous investigations and rich tasks for teachers to choose from and information for whanau.
You will be able to animate bouncing balls, build a swarm of robots, and make virtual fireworks explode.
A NZ based site, with videos and worksheets for Secondary New Zealand Maths. The 'Booklets' section, allows you to download entire booklets of worked examples and exercises for Year 9 & 10 Maths.
BBC site for teaching English to teenagers. Levelled according to ability. Lesson plans and activities are free to download. Some have a UK context, but others are suitable for NZ students.
Access the entire School Journal library, as well as Connected resources online. NZ MoE site. Reading level 4, although some content in the Connected series has links to level 5 Science and Social Sciences.
Maths 'how to' videos, with questions and answers for hundreds of maths topics. Suitable for Y9-10. Gets more difficult the further you scroll down the page. UK site.
Sign up online at The Tasman District Library, allowing access to e-books, audio books, videos & research assistance from librarians.
Select from a range of number games for 11-14 year olds. Choose a Maths category to view games.
English and Maths interactive skills practice. Click on the skill you wish to practice to use the site for free.
NZ Mental Health Foundation site with lots of well-being resources, including the 5 Ways to Well-being.
Technology New Zealand brings you the Techno Challenge 2020, due 3rd July 2020. The 'Iterative Design' section is aimed at Years 8-10. This can be done at home or school.
A new picture, with writing and sentence structure activities, for every day of the year. No sign in required.
Free to air, on TVNZ channel 2+1 and on TVNZ on Demand, & Sky Channel 502. It will run from 9am to 3pm on schooldays with programming for children and young people aged 2 to 15.
A highly visual, New Zealand based site for students to learn about parts of the brain and the effect of substances on the brain.
'Microscopic Beasts & How to Fight Them' is a free online Science course, created by a NZ Deputy Principal. High interest Science and Maths content.
The National Geographic resource library contains Science and Social Sciences articles suitable for different levels from age 5-18. Several focus on environmental issues.
